After talks lasting all day, a special representative nieeting of tlie Britisli JMedical Association in London yesterday uiiaiiimouslv passed a resolution declaring that the National Health Service Act in its present form ''is so grossly at variance with the essential interests of the profession that it should be rejeeted absolutely by all practitioners. 1 ' ' The nieeting was attended by 37 )- doctors from all parts of Britaiiq aud tlie resolution is being sent to all the 56,000 members of the m-edical profession who will ballot on the issue at the end of the month. A rejection by 67 per. cent. of the profession would, it is elaimed, make tlie Act unworkable. A leading article in the current issue of the British Medical Journal, cm- • phasises that the medical profession is in a strong position. Its services were iudispensable ^to the welfare of the community and would, of. eourse, never be withlield but, the journal added, it can determine tlie conditions of its worx and insist upon maintaining a framework of libertv aud freedom which, at the same time, includes order.
