MELBOURNE TRAMWAY STRIKE CONTINUES
.MELBOURNE, Jan. 8,. Tlie Milbourne tram strike continues. Uniou representatives had a coiiference with the Premier. Mr. llollway, today whereat Mr. llollway said the Govern-' ment would not negotiate with the strikers. While the tramwaymen were defving the law* the Government could not discnss anything. An earlier coiiference between the union and Minister of Publie Works, Mr. Kennedy, failed to achieve any basis of settlemeiit. The irnion merely leiterated willingness to resunie under pre-stfike eonditions but would not ac*ept the Tramway Board's new six-day i*osters. Xothing further can now be done until I-Tiday afteriioon when the ease again comes before the Coneiliation t'ommissioner. It is very unlikely, even if a settlement is reached tomorrow, that any trams will run this weekend.
