I — /WANGANUI, Jan. 8. When swiniming In the Wanganui River 300 vards upstream from the wharf at Pipiriki, on Wednesday evening, a young Maori was drowned. He was : Alr. Joseph Potaka, agecl 23, single, a radio meehanie, of Wellington. Alr. Potaka was aecompanied by a young Maoi'i woman and got into difficulties in a treacherous part. of the river. She made an effort tp reseue liiin but the current was too strong. The hody has not yet been re'covered. Mr. Potaka was employed. by the Kadio Corporation of New Zealand.
