Press Association)

(Per

HASTINGS, Jan. 7. A slight easing was noticeable in the realisations for store slieep at Stortford Lodge today, when. a yarding of 18,000, oue of the biggest for soirie time, eame under the hammer. The market, "which generally favoured buyers, was nevertheless featured by several good prices. The best bid for woolly wether lambs was 29s 7d for a splendidly eonditioned pen of Romneys. Fat lambs ranged in price up to 34s lOd, fat ewes from 24s 7d to 26s 4d and fat wethers from 25s and 33s for lights and 39s ld for medium wethers. Ample evidence that there was still plenty of good quality beef about, though not as heavy as nsual, was forthcoming when an entry of 210 head was marketed. The cattle, mostly cows and heifers, were of excellent quality and sold at good prices, the bidding from the large bench of buyers being animated. An entry of 40 head of cattle, mainly medium bullocks and splendid heavy cows and heifers, was responsible for top bullock prices of £20 10s, though the entry included a line of good quality bullocks that brought £20 6s, £19 18s 6d and £17 11s for slightly lighter types. There was little interest m proceedings at the store cattle pens and prices were not particularly impressive. Store bullocks of inferior quality sold at £11 17s 6d,. cows and calves at £6 16s, heifers at £6 10s and £6 5s and vealers at from. £6.
