Sequel To Massacre Of Sikh > Refugees In Temple .
Received ThursdaVj 11.15 a.m. KARACHI, Jan. 7. The police arrested 490 people 'last night after the riots whieh followed the massacre of 64 Sikh refugees quartered in a temple. A mob of about 8000 stormed the temple in whieh 184 Sikh men, women and children, evacuees from Upper Sind, were housed for transit, and afterwards set it on fire. Not one of the Sikhs escaped unhurt. a - As the fiames rose the Moslems rushed through the street looting Hindu quarters, and twelve more people were killed and about 60 wounded in further incidents. Troops grappled with the' rioters. Sind Cabinet Ministers helped the troops to restore order. The Prime Minister of Sind, Khan Bahadur Mahommed Khuro, personally arrested a looter. The Minister of Education, Pir Ellahi Bux, laid out looters outside a shop with a walking stick, and dispersed them. Twelve were killed and 60 wounded" in incidents throughoiit the city. Last night the Hindu bazaar was set on fire but all was reported quiet at midnight with the City under curfew and heavily patrolled by police and troops. The attack on the temple apparently took the authorities by surprise and the Sikhs were slaughtered in their sanctuary before the police could be mobilised.
