FARMERS WILL BE ABLE TO GET PETROL
• WELLINGTON, Jau, 6. Beeause of eomplaints about petrol. supplies for es'sential purposes, Federated'Parmers invited the Government to indicate its policy rfegafding fuel for agricultural produc.ti.on under the present quota system. The Minister of Supply (Mr. Norduieyer) replied that where petrol resellers required additional petrol for essential farm work the cases would be reported to the Transport Departr ment ?s. distriet traffic officer, who would deal with the situation. ' ' The general policy is ,to mahe Bufficient petrol available to euablo f armers to carry on the production, ' ' said the Oil I'uel Gontroller (Mr. G. IS. Laurenson), So far as farming was concerned there was a great diiference between the present and last season. He said that.many thousands of gallons had been added to existing quotas to enable resellers and private pump holders to meet the earlier demands of the farming industry. Wherever petrol was necessary for the farmer to carry on production, and no other supply was available in the distriet, Federated Farmers could rest assured that additional supplies would be made available immediately the ease was brought to the notice of the Oil Fuel Controller or the distriet oflices. • As an alternative to the present system, rationing would need a further 500 State employees. to operate it.
