Burdekin, Were guests, was held at the Boys' Training Centre, Weraroa, * oh Thursday . The sociaLhal-1 was beautifully. decorated for -the occasion and the boys, staff and guests enjoyed themselves thoroughly, Mr, and Mrs, Burdekin were accompanied by their daughter. ApolOgies were received from thfe President of the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce, Mr. D. J. Sweetzer, who was unable to_ attend. . ' Oh; a'rriVal at the centre. the guests were taken 011 a' conducted tour by the centre's manager, Mr. E. J, Stanley. pesigned entirely by one of the boys, Drummond Whitecliffe, a special commemorative jtoast list aroused considerable comment f or its artistic design. The boys entere'd wholeheartedly into the .proceedings and proposeb toasts in a very able mannet. The .toast list. was as follows: ".'The Female Staff," proposed b:y Charles W. Bragg and responded to by Miss Reynolds; "Residents of Levin," Robert E. Trainer-— The Mayor; "The Kimberley Farm," Brian R. Kennedy— Mr. C. .Guy; "The Staff," Drummond W. Whitecli'ffe — Mr. S. A. Abbott; "The Chief," Charles A. O'Grady— Mr. E. J. Stanley; "The Centre," His Worship the Mayor — Mr. E. J. Stanley, During the fuhction the Mayor was requested to pass on to the citizens of Levin the appreciation of the boys and staff for the kindness and goodwili that had been shown those *at the centre. Among those who were present at the function were two boys who had taken Up certain positions on farms .and who attended to join in the celebrations. They were made very welcome. The toastmaster was Mr. S. Abbott, senior house master.
