Britain Against Big Four Conference
, CovVTight)
Received Tuesday, 11 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 5. The British and United States 3-overnments have received copies of the Sovie't note to China, reiterating Russia's view that the Big Four should prepare the Japanese Peace Treaty. A British spokesman said that Britain disagreed with both the Russian proposal and China's sugg'estion that the eleven nations represented on the Far Eastern Commission should draft the treaty, subject to the Big Four's veto. Britain still believed that the countries which belped to defeat Japan, those which suffered from Japanese aggression and those with vital intei'ests in the Pacific should attend the preliminary peace conference. No indication could be obtainsd at the State Department in Wash^ ington today as to when the United States was likely to g'ive its views on the subj ect.
