CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 4. Mr. Douglas Alexander- Ennis, aged 42, mmarried, of Rangiora, was drowned at tlie moutli of Ashley River this afternoon. — • - - Mayne Hawkins, a boy in a fishing party, egot into difficulties and kr/. Ennis, with Hawkins' father, went to the rescue. A fisherinan, Mr. P. McMiilan, with a bqat, «aved both the Hawkins but. the bodv of Mr. Ennis was not recovered unti'l the river was dragged. Artificial respira'tion was applied by Dr. L. M. King for an hour without suceess. |
