WADE STILL LEADS IN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
DUNEDIN, Dec. 30. • With the lifth round# coinpleted m the New Zealand ehess ehampionship being played in Dunedin, R. G. Wade (Wellington), foriner title holder anct present ehainpion of the South Western States of America, is still in the lead of the 12 playlws in the ehampionship. The present New Zealand title lioider,, T. Lejiviikman (Wellington), is in fourth place equal with two other contestants. A tofcal of 11 rounds Ivill be played. At the conclusion of plav in the lifth round today, the ehampionship points were: — R. G. Wade (Wellington) 41, II. McNab!) (Nelson) and R. O. Scott (Wellington) 4, A. E. Nielcl (Sydney), D. I. The fifth qualifying round of the major open tournament in which thero are 26 contestants, was concluded today. Play was conducted on the elimination system and the eight players leading on points will now contest tho major open title while nine others wili take part in a first class tournament and the remaining nine will compete in a second class tournament. Those wno qualified for. play for the major open title were: — A. Kwok (Dunedin), N. T. Fletcher (Wellington), R. E. Baeyertz (Auckland), W. Roindler (Wanganui), N. S. Henderson (Wellington), Mrs. E.
