Received Tuesdav. 7 p.m. LOXDOX, Dec. 20. A tfilephone hoaxer caused some red faees in East Croydon and Addiscombe, in Su rrey, during the Christmas holidays. The. hoaxer rang up several hotyes and said that the "down your way ' ' broadeast was being switched from Liverpool to Croydon. "This is Richard Diiribleby spfcaking," he added. "The B.B.C. have counected a special record ing apparatus to your 'phone. We want tb make this programme t'estive — so will you sing a comic song or t'ell a story ? ' ' After some Hashfulness and throat clearing, several people obliged. One woman who volunteered to sing a "Iight ballad was told that the piano eould not be herird very well, and could she drag it nearer the 'phone.' There was a rush for the piano. but wlien thl> rfeceiver was picked up again the hoaxer had rung off. It was not until the broadeast began .fronl Liverpoo! flutt tlie triclc was diseovered. Then fachs became pink and the air blue.
