£900 STOLEN FROM HOTEL
GISBORNE, Dec. 27. . A.sum of £900 was stolen from the Matawhero Hotel five miles'frdp. Gisborne early on Sunday morning. Thieves forced a bar of the window, - robbed the till containlng £72 and removed a small safe from under the counter to a waiting motor car. The safe contained about £828, including £180 in cheques, »arid twenty packets of tobacco. It was later iound blown open with explosives on top of Kaiti Hill. six miles away. The proprietor (Mr. Wattie Wilson) was wakened by a noisy car outside the hotel at 4.30 a.m., but his suspicions were not aroused and he did not discover the robbery until an hour and a-half later.
