The shops were thronged with Christmas. shoppers while a number of holiday-makers were in evidence. A Good Dividend As a result of the Otaki races last Saturday the Government will benefit 10 the extent of £5861 4s lld in taxation. The amount is made up as follows: Totalisator o duty £3065 3s, dividend duty £2681 izs, stakes tax £40 18s and amusement tax £73 11s Ud. .
