PARAPARAUMU NOTES

(From "Chronicle Correspondent) ] The Paraparaumu - Women's Institute held its December meeting in the Anglican Hall, presided over by Mrs. Hadfield. The hall was gay with flowers, streamers and the traditional Christmas tree and decorations. Numerous parcels were donated to the Mental Hospital at Porirua. Mrs. Wright gave an interesting an'd comprehensive report on the conference in Te Horo. In the golden thread series Miss Peachy reaa some interesting extracts from a digest. A roll call, "My Most Memorabie Christmas," brought forth some very interesting stofies. Competitions were won by Mesdames Perry (cake) , Beckett (dinner) , Wright (lucky number) &nd Osborne (pine needle basket and novelty) . The best ' flower competition -went to Miss Clarkson, with Mrs. Price second. Mrs. Hadfield was presented with a lovely bouquet in appreciation of her work for the institute. Mrs. Hadfield extended to all present the season's greetings. The stall in aid of library funds netted £7, which was considered a remarkable effort. It was in charge of Mesdames Weston and Caterer. The ordiiiary saies table was also weil stocked with an array of saleable goods, and Mesdames Mclsaac and Fitchett were kept busy. The W.D.F.F. held its Christmas party in the Anglican Hall, presided over by Mrs. Hams. Each member took and received a Christmas gift. Owing to the postponement of the Christmas fair, which was to have been held in the Anglican Church grounds, a street stall was conducted in the township and one at Raumati South. Both resulted in a very satisfactory sum of money being raised. The Paraparaumu Women's Institute held a successful puppet show and social eveninR- in aid of funds for the library. The library committee work verv hard for the -library. which benefits the district as a whole in that- anyone wishing j to join and avail themselves of good jreading matter may do so. | The members of St. Paul's Angli- j can Chureh Mothers' Union held a, Christmas meeting in the Anglicana Hall. Afternoon tea was served I and members entertained with a tableau staged by some of the i members. -
