SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MEN WITH GIFTS AS AIRMEN

WELLINGTON, Dec. q. The Minister of Detence, Mr. .Tories, stated today that Cabinet Had appwoved oi' the establishment of a Royal New Zealand Air Force scholarship for the purpose of fostering the progress o-f coni|5etefit airmen throfigh the ranks to positions of cornmand and higher responsibility. The te'rms of th'e award are: — (A) To be open to serving members of the R.N.Z.A.E. who are not over 21 years of age at the date of selection and who have passed the university entrance examination. (Bj To be tenable 'at one of the eonstiiuenl colleges of the University of New Zealand for four years. (C) To be of the valiie Of £225 per annufii for the p'erio'ds the holder is attending the university but exelusive of periods of long vaeation When he would 15e employed ifi the li.N.^.A.F. and rdceive pay f'Or such period at a rate appropriate to his service rank. During the period Of atfendftnce at the university the hohler is to b'e ofi leave without pay from the R.N.Z.A.F. (D) The amount of £225 is tO cOver all expenses -including university fees, purchasc of text boo-ks and examination fees. (E) The candidate is to be.fit for full flying duties in the. (G) The nuniber of scholarships to be awarded iii any- one year is to be decided by Cabinet on the recommendation of the Minister of Defence.
