BUSY TIME FOR FARMERS
MUCH HARVEST ACTTVTTY
Farmers all over the 'district are taking advantage of the dry spell to complete their harvesting before the , holiday season. Many have their hay cut and- several have already completed harvesting, while others are content to wait uritil after the holidays before commencing. It seams that many of the farmers of the district are employing the harvest contractors this season, as it does away with the age-old problem of stacking hay and perhaps an even greater problem, that of securing the necessary casual labour for harvesting. Market gardeners are also being kept busy at the moment. Several tons of potatoes are finding a rea'dy market from the Opiki and Moutoa areas. Both farmers and market gardeners who are at present harvesting were somewhat alarmed yesterday morning when the sky clouded over and a few threatening drops of rain fell. However, one or two days of steady rain would be most welcome to the rural districts as in many places grass is commencing to brown off and autumn crops are looking very dry. Also, many rural housewives are complaining of a shortage of tank water.
