ST. JOSEPH'S TENNIS CLUB
MEETING OF COMMITTEE A president's v captain's teams match will be played on Saturday by the St. Joseph's Tennis Club, commencing at=l p.m. This was 'decided at a meeting of the club committee on Wednesday night and it was urged that all players intending to enter should be early. It was resolved to ask the women members to provide a plate and the male members a donation to defray the the cost of-balls. • Appreciation was recorded of the gift by Mr. R. Baylis of two cups for competition between members. Mr. Baylis was an active member and had already given a trophy for competition in the combined doubles, in which there was keen competition, the present holders being Mr. and Mrs. B. Hudson. They had withstood several challenges for the trophy,i the strongest being from A. Gray and Miss E. Matulich, who, after securing a commanding lead, went down 31 — 29. K. Robinson and J. Lynch have made two attemps to wrest the honours from the holders, but so far have not made the grade. The next challengers will be C. Melville and Miss D. Galloway, who should prove a formidable pair.
Another generous supporter oi the club mentioned by members • •was! Mr, S. J. Galloway, who had recently donated a dozen balls. * The ladders in the clubhouse have undergone many changes in the past few weeks. Members are showing very keen intsrest and by the time the next inter-club matches are played a few changes in the teams may be made.
