STATE HOUSING IN OTAKI

Advising that a further buildingj contract for five State houses inj Otaki was being prepared, a lettjer was received at Wednesday night's meeting of the Otaki Borougli Council from the -Director of "Housing Construction. It added that the contract should be ready for tendering soon. The Mayor, Mr. C. F. Amore, said that he had made full enquiries into the matter of housing** The trouble Was the lack of the necessary material. If a large construction firm would undertake the work something might be accomplished. Cr. Hakaraia stated that representatives of a large company were at present , in Otaki ""and would shortly -be busy renovating the Telegraph Hotel, which had been considerably damaged by fire. It was suggested that the menrber of Parl'ament for the district, Mr. J. J. Maher, might be contacted, but eventually the matter was left to the Mayor to wait on the Minister.
