LEVIN'S FINAL 1948 MEETING
The Levin Women's Institute met in the Oddfellows' Hall recently for the final time this year. There was a good attendance and, all were welcomed by the president, Mrs. Kellaway. There were several apologies for absence, while one new member was enrolled. » Before the business was commenced the president moved a motion of sympathy with all those who had lost relatives and friends in the recent tragic fire in Christchurch. This was carried by all present standng in silence. Mrs. Maugham was appointed delegate to the Dominion Federation council meeting in August of next year. Instead of the usual thought for the month, Mrs. Blake told an amusing short story. The bverseas competition was won by Mrs. Mitchell, the prize being donated by Mrs. Kellaway. Other competitions were won by Mrs. Hurliman (gloves) and Miss Leonore Ward, of Kilbirnie (fruit bowl) . The usual competitions resulted as follows:— Flowers: Mrs. Young 1, Mrs. Spencer 2, Mrs. Edyvane 3. Shrub: Mrs. Hyde 1, Mrs. Spencer 2. * The remainder of the afternoon was social, members joining wholeheartedly in the roll call, "a job I don't like." Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses and the meeting closed with -members singing three Christmas carols and 'the National Anthem.
