DISPUTE OVER RACEHORSE
LEGAL FIGHT FOR POSSESSION OF TE RANUI The racehorse Te Ranui, registered under the name of B. L. Everton, Levin, will be the subjectof a legal dispute in . the Levin court this weekv„when Everton will lodge a claim for poSSessiori of the horse from J. R! and G. Everton, or the sum of £300. The case was originally set down for hearing on Friday, but owing to the large list of other cases, and the probable length of the hearing, the magistrate, Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., suggested that he make it the subject of a special hearing on Wednesday. This was agreed to by counsel for claimant, Mr. N. M. Thomson, and Mr. M. B. Bergin, of Foxton, who appeared for defendants. To the magistrate, Mr. Thomson said that it was preferable for the case to be heard as soon as possible, as the horse was contesting the summer racing and had been accepted for Otaki the following day. Should a remand till the January court be made, he asked that the court decree" the return of the horse in the meantime on ■the understanding that all winnings during the intervening period be recorded pending a decision. In view of the circumstanees and the fact that the position in regard to the availability of magistrates in Wellington was now more favourable, he would make a special journey to Levin on Wednesday to hear the case, said Mr. Gouldingi * '
