POSTMASTER FAREWELLED
PRESENTATION TO MR. WHITHAM A farewell function to Mr. L. A. Whitham, till recently"*postmaster at Levin, was held by members of his staff this week. Popular with all sections of his staff, Mr. Whitham has been in ' Levin for two years. In this short period Mr. Whithaih has taken a keen interest in the town. He was prominent in the activities of ' the Levin Rotary Club and was also a member of the Levin branch of the R.S.A. and Levin Bowling Club. The excellent results achieved to date in the health stamp campaign in Levin were largely the result of his enthusiasm, while he was associatefi with the food for Britain drive in Levin, giving its sponsors his assistance and knowledge of postal problems. Mr., Whitham was an enthusiastic a'dvocate of the new telephone exchange for the town and it was during his term as postmaster that it was finally installed. Mr. Whitham left yesterday ■ to take up his new duties as postmaster at Feilding. His successor at Levin is Mr. A. V. Morgan, of Putaruru. Presenting Mr. Whitham with a brass fireside log box, the senior supervisor, Mr. W. G. Ogier, conjgratulated him on his promition to the position at Feilding, and 'thanked him for the interest he had taken ip the welf are ,of his staff.' He woiild be: greatly missed by both the staff and the business comriiuhity. The telegraph supervisor, Mr. J. Broadb(ent, also spoke on behalf of members of his staff and he was followed by «the supervisor of the telephone exchange, Mr. I. S. Patterson. Bqth expressed regret at losing Mr. Whitham, but congratulated him on his new appointment.
