TRIALS 4T WAIKAWA BEACH tThe Horowhenua Gun-dog Club was again fortunate in having fine weather for its third- ti'ial, which was held last weekend at Waikawa Beach. Enthusiasts gathered from Masterton,*" Featherston and the Hutt ClUbs, and their presence Added to th'e keenness of ,the num.erous evehts. A moderate gallery of spectqtors was treated to »some very cr editable per f or.mances , and results were frequently .close. A feature of the day was the good performances of _ locallyowried 'dogs.' In the main event Mr. L. G- Bismark's black Labrador-, "Pincher &tar," tied with Mr. L. MCooper's. (Hutt) yellow Labrador, "Woodleigh Advocate," and in the run-off Mr. Bismark's dog put in an' excellent run to win. The yrater section was won by Mr.'C. Irlan's (Hutt) yellow Labrador, "Woodleigh Defiance." In the aggregate "Mr. Bismark "was again successful with 178 points out of a possible 200, Mr. Irlan being secr ond. ' * • In the novice event two local members' dogs had a run away victorv. Mr. A. Joblinis "Princess

Hargay" (177 points) being first and Mr. J. S. Connell'-s "Orua Pau" (172 points) being second. The third competitor was 16 points be- ' hind the winner. In the puppy event, Mr. Connell's black Labr rador, "Orua Pau" had a very easy victory in all . three sections._ He is ishowing considerable promise, as he demonstrated by running Mr. Joblin's "Princess Hargay" to a close finish in the novice event. A very interesting item was the noyelty event, a two-bird blind retrieve on land. Mr. Bismark was again successful, "Pincher Star" putting up a 'very polished performance. A meritorious effort was j made ' in this event by Mr. E. Ward's "Eddie of Lake Ride" under the management of Master Henry Ward who showed considerable 'judgment as a handler. Both dog and handler received an ovation from the gallery on the success of the second bird retrieve. Detailed results were as follows: — i Open class, Land section: L. Bisimark (91 points) 1, G.
