END-OF-SEASON DANCE
FUNCTION IN PALMERSTON NORTH Pupils and friends of Miss Irene Oliver gathered in the A. and P. Hall, Palmerston North, on Saturday night, the occasion being the studio's annual end - of - season dance. A large number of pupils from the Levin braneh were present. Miss Oliver received the guests wearing a gown of lemon organdie and black lace, with black bead work. She was assisted by Mrs. H. Key, in tartan seersucker, an'd Miss R. Miles, in black lace and marquisette. To the music of a professional orchestra, dancing continued till midnight. A feature of the evening were the finals, of the 1947 pupils' ballroom championship, the winners being Miss Royce Miles and Mr. Ronnie Harrod. Runnersup were Miss Fay Sayles and Mr. Fred Hubbard. The adjudicator was Mrs. Grace Grier. The prize for the most attractively dressed girl went to Miss Ngaire Pike, who wore a gown of marina blue georgette. Opportunity was also taken to present trophies and certificates to pupils successful in the recent examinations, following which a mo'dern waltz formation dance display was given by eight couples. A huia trio, dressed in white and silver huia costumes, provided another popular diversion. Accompanying the trio with stringed instruments were the pupils of
Mrs. F. Withers, with Miss O'Conner at the piano. Miss Oliver will hold her Levin branch's .end-of-season dance in the Regent Hall on Monday night.
