BOYS' BAND CANCELS PLANS
PRACTICES AND ENGAGEMENTS Consequent on the more serious^ tuni the infantile paralysis out- ' break has taken, the Levin Boys' Band practices have been suspended and all engagements cancelled. The president of the band, Mr. H. A. Robertson, said he regretted that this was necessary, but as 40 per cent. of its personnel were under 12 years, it could not carry on in the meantime. The band was to have taken partJ in carol playing at Christmas in conjunction with the Municipal Band, and was also to have played at the Boys' Training Centre and Levin Farm, Kimberley Roa'd. Considerable progress had been made since the days when the band had only a few fifes, continued Mr. Robertson. The band now numbered 50 and every person had an instrument. It had had a har'd struggle and raised its finance by its own resources. Apart from a recent purchase, all the instruments were paid for. It was to be hoped, added Mr. Robertson, that the suspension of practices would not be for long.
