Bowling Fixtures Altered In connection with the Levin j Bowling Club's rinks champion- , ship, which was set down for Sat- j urday, December 20, it has now been arranged that these games be played on Saturday next, Decem- i ber 13. This applies to both grades. Pillager Gaoled Gordon Graham McLeod, a waterside labourer, aged 41, was sentenced to one month's hard labour by Mr. Stillwell, S.M., in the Wellington Court, on a charge of theft of 30 yards of dress lhaterial v.alued at £7 10s from the Federal Steam Navigation Company. "The Courts have had to take hard measures to deal with pillaging and I do not see that the circum-: stances of this case are any different," said the Magistrate. Dangers of Fire With the dry weather and consequent danger of scrub and forest fires, the State Forest Service and 3oil Conservation Council haye mmmenced an active campaign against this destructive force. Using national advertising and posters to the fullest ad-vantage, every' effort is being made to bring the danger Df fire before children, campers and the public generally. In attracfively illustrated booklets sent to 3.11 schools, the two organisations, with sketches and stories, tell of :he costly destruction wrought by :he careless handling of camp fires and matches. Proposed Marching Merger The possibility of merging. the Niew Zealand Marching andRecreabion Association and the New Zeaand Marching Union was dis;ussed at a conference in Wellington at the weekend between repre>entatives of both bodies. For some time it has been urged that :he two bodies, which control girls' narching activities, should amaljamate in" the interests of the sport in view of its spread throughDut the Dominion. The views of the respective organisations were exchanged at the conference and the representatives agreed to submit the results of the deliberations to their members. Celebration Brought Fijie As a means of celebrating the Ftoyal wedding on November 20, a /oung commissione'd officer from Linton Military Camp fired off two shots from a Luger revolver he bad brought home from overseas. In the Magistrate's 3ourt at Palmerston North yesterlay before Mr. J. JR,. Herd, B.M., the Army officer was charged with Deing in unlawful posses.sion of a weapon. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £1, cg(sts 10s, and made m order for suppression of defendmt's name. .
