SOUTH ISLAND SCHOOLS TO BE CLOSED
DUNEDIN, Dec. 7. The Director-General of Health (Dr. T. R. Ritchie) announced tonight that it has bgen decided to close all schools in the South Island, primarv and secondary, public and private, and steps will be Aken in the various health districts to restrict the attendance of children under 1(5 at all public gatheiings. Mr. Ritchie added that the decision does not ail'ect the universily examinations at present in progress. The Minister of Health (Miss Mabel Howard) in a telephone interview told the Otago Daily Tinies that the Department of Health was taking the ulmost precautious to control the epidemic, arnl added that in the coming week consideration would be given to the question of how far further steps could be takou to restrict the rnovuments of the public who might Le carricrs of Ihe disease.
