WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. / Early this afternoon the Health Department reported that there were four positive cases of infantile paralysis in the Wellington Hospital. One was* a child admitted last night sftid the three others are adults. No Cases Locally Enlarging on the Department of Health's total prohibition on the . attendance of children under 16 years of age at any function or gathering whatsoever, and published in the advertising columns of this iss.ue, Mr. W. J. _ Guinan, district health officer, said today that prior to this instruction the appeal had been made on a voluntary basis only. The gatherings referred to included churches, Sunday schools, swimming baths, Christmas tree parties, athletic meetings and all forms of- entertainment, whether inside or outside. . . Mr. Guinan stated that up to noon today there had been no case of infantile paralysis, either sus- | pect or positive, notified in his area, which included the Hima- | tangi-Foxton-Waikanae district. He ' .issued a further warning on the

dangers of. over-exposure to the sun and repeated that although it had not been proved that the disease was attributable to excess exposure, nevertheless this brought about a lowering of resistance, which made a person more susceptible to infection.
