GISBORNE, Dec. 5Gisborne's fitsb seheduled wooi sale was abandoned this mornihg because buyefs did not attend, Thu whole catalogue was withdrawn, "We have faced the bafrier here today ptepared to hOld the sale. In view of the fact Lhat ha buyefe are present we have no aiterna'tive but to withdraw the whole catalogue," said Mf . K. B. Garland chairman of the Gisborne Woolbrokefs' Association, in a statement from the stage at the Opero House. ' He was acldressing the large gathefing Of growers . who assembled in the auction roohi. Although joint ofganisatioii representatives were present, and were apparently prepared to bid floor prices, the brokers agreed that there was no point in opening the selling in the' absence oi competition. Although the abandonment of the sale was fairly generally expected in view of the wool buyefs' opposition -in coming to Gisborne, many ' fafniers " were openly disappointed. The catalogue comprised 20,883 bales, including 17,000 bales of the new season's clip. Growers Wih now have the alternotive of sending wool to Napier for the sale later in tlie season or shipping their clips to London for sale. An assurance has been given . that shipping space will be.allotted for wool consigned .to England on the growers' account.
