SPORTS AT OTAKI
VISITING ATHLETES COMPETE The sports held ' weekly under the auspices of the Otaki A.A. and C. Club are increasing in popularity, and on Wednesday night there was a large and interested attendance. Quite a large number came from Paraparaumu, among them being officials of the Paraparaumu sports club and several competitors. In consequence more interest was shown in the various events, and competition' was good. Again the handicappers -did good work. Results of the various events on the programme were as follows:- — Half-mile open cycle. — D. Smith (scr.) 1, E. Matliie (25 ydS.) 2, A. Brooks (100 yds.) 3.^ Also started: G Eddy and S. Snowden (both 100 yds) . Eddy set the pace but on the far corner the field, with the exception of the scratch man, was well bunched. Smith, a strong ri-der, came with a good burst of speed to win by a wheel. Junior 100 yards. — Waaka 1, I. Mudge 2, Housiaux 3. Time, 11 1/5 secs. There were nine starters and the race was a good one, a foot separating first and second. Senior 100 yards. — Hakaraiia 1, G. Clunie (Paraparaumu) 2, J. McLeod 3. Time, 11 secs. Five starters. Won on the tape. Ladies' 75 yards. — Miss' Fox 1, Miss Kingi 2, Miss M. Buqhanan (Paraparaumu) 3. Time, 10 secs. Won by six inches. Half-mile boys' cycle. — R. Collis (scr.) 1, W. Te Tau (75 yds.) 2, J. Jensen (50 yds.) 3. Tiine, 1 min. 34 2/5 secs. Eight starters. Won !,by a length, with half a length [separating second and third. I Junior one mile cycle. — S.
