Personal ' Mrs. Heagerly, of Wellington, is the guest of her siSter, Mrs. Boyd, Bell Street. Mrs. V. Tews has retumed from Woodville', where she was the guest of Mrs. J. Nelson, "Woodlands." The vicar, Canon' H. E. K. Fry, will be exchanging duties. on December 11 and 18 and January 25 with Canon Robertshawe, vicar of St. Mark's Parish, Wellington. Canon Robertshawe will be in residence at the vicarage with his family during that period. At a meeting of' the Otaki Commercial Association on Wednesday night a motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs. Lowry and family in the bereavement they had suffered through the death of Mr. L. G. Lowry, who had been a valued member of the association. The motion was carried in silence, all standing. The infant son of Inia Te Wiata, the Maori singer who is now studying in London, was christened m the historic Rangiatea Church at Otaki last 'week. Mrs. Te Wiata (who is closely related to Princess Te Puea Herangi) brought the baby specially from Ngaiuawahia for the purpose. The chil'd was born after his father's departure for London this year. The ceremony was performed by the Bishop of Aotearoa- (the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett) ; assisted by the Rev. Paora Temuera. Rag Drive A -most successful rag drive was recently conducted by the Otaki Girl ' Guides, wioh the result that half a ton of rags of all sizes, shapes and colours was collected. The drive was held to raise funds to provide the company's quota to Arahina House Guiders' training centre. Sporting A. D. T. .(Turoa) Webster has been granted a jockey's licence by the racing conference and he iiopes to resume riding at Woodville this week. Webster was one of the prominent riderS in Australia for several years. Since his return to New Zealand some years ago he has been training at Otaki. Athletic Sports The Otaki A.A. and C. Club will • hold a sports meeting on the Otaki domain on Saturctay, January 10, when excellent prize money and valuable trophies willbe competed for. To add to the interest of the gathering, leading athletes from various parts, inclu'ding the South Island, will be present, oesides representatives of the Wellington. Wairarapa, Hbrowhenua and Mana watu sports bodies. The ] officials are already working ener- i getically to make the sports a great success, and given a fine day J the attendance should be a record one. i ■ i
