DOUKHOBOR FANATICS SENT TO GAOL

Twenty-one men and 11 women of the Doukhobor veligious sect, were sentenced today io terms of imprisonmenl averaging about eig'ht years, on charges of "riotous burning and arson", arising from fauatical fire raids in West Ivootenav Yalley early In 1947. AVhen ihe sentences were pronounced ihe Doukhobor women attempted to strip lmt were hustled from tlie Court. During the last 40 years violence coji-. nected with the Doukhobor seet has caused ten deaths and 1,000,000 dollars' propertv damage. Internecine strrfe developed wdien the original M)oukhobor immigrants who left Russia after being persecuted for refusing military service, split into tw« groups after their arrival in Canada.
