BRITAIN GETTING DOWN TO WORK

LONDON, Dec. 3. Mr. Jack Joiies, joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply, who is touring all the industrihl areas inspecting the progress oi the production diive, said at Birmingham: "This country doesn't know enough about itself. Figures released this week reveal that the new merchant shipping ton nage under construction in Britain during October, set yet another record when it reached 1,944,000 tons gross, nearly 30,000 tons more than the previous month. October was also a record month for motor vehicle exports. British factories sent 17,564 cars and 5021 commercial vehicles overseas.
