CENTRE MARCHING CONTEST
TWENTY-TWO TEAMS TO TAKE PAET
Twenty-two teams Will compete in the Manawatu Marching Centre's championships which, will be conducted on the " Palmerston North showgrounds on Saturday, December 13. The contest will decide which two teams will represent the centre at the New Zealand championships at Dunearn in February. The directors of the Manawatu Times have presented a tvophy to be known as Tne Times Cup, which will be held by the winning team for a period of 12 montho. It will be presented to the successful team at the' conclusioh' of the contest by Mrs. M! H. Oram, wife of the patron of the centre. Visiting teams from outside the cenrre's area will also be present. They will provide displays during the afternoon and also take part in the serpentine march, a grand dispiay of colour in which over 300 girls will participate. An added attraction -will be the presence of "Miss Wanganui" and Miss Wellington, provincial finalists in the Miss New Zealand Quest. These two young . ladies, Miss Melville and Miss Stewart, will, in conjunction with Mrs. R. Hill, of Wellington, be the costlume judges. All marching teams in uhe Horowhenua district will compete with the exception of the j uveniles.
