FINAL JUDGING ABANDONED

CALF REARING UOMPETITIONS In the interests of the children's health, the Horowhehtta Boys* and Girls' Agricultural Cluh decicted iast night to abandon all arrangements for the final judging of the calf and lamb competitions, which was to have been held in Levin on December 12. The subject was discussed at some length. Mr, F, Q, Malcohn suggested that if the judging Was abandbned, it might be possible to hold the final juciging at the Horowhenua A. and P. show. In opposing this suggestion, Mr. R. W. Evans pointed ottt that there was a possibility of the show being cancelled if the infantile paralysis epidemie reached the district. Besides, parents would not consent to children carrying on the calves until the ehd of January. Iteplying to a suggestion that the decision be postponed for a week, Mi\ H. F. McClune said that it would not help at all, and the club would be taking a grave risk if it sponsored any gathering of children. Unless official word was received from the Wellington Education Board that they would take all responsibility, he Oersonally would not even consider continuing the projeet. The decision to abandon the projeet was ultimately reached. Hoxne gardens will be jxxdged, the arrangements being left to the secretary, Mr. C. E. Wiseley, and Mr. McClune, who Will contact the teachers of the various schools.
