MARCHING TEAM'S DISPLAY
♦_ —f FUNDS RAISED FOR UNIFORMS That Otaki intends to be marching girl minded was very evident early on Fi'iday evening, when an expectant air prevailed and crowds thronged bocn - sides of Main Street to see the marching team give a street -display. The applause which followed .the com: pletion of each movenient was fully deserved, and must have been gratifying to the team and its very efficient coach, Mr. H. N. Fearnley. To spirited music supplied by the Otaki Band, the girls ceriainly turned on a thrilling and exhilarating display of marching, countermarching, inclining, centre filing and several other movements which make marching the fascinating spectacle it is. On all sides appreciative comment was heard and if the improvement made slnce the girls' first appearance is maintained Otaki can look forward with confidence to the time when the team takes the field. A street collection following the display resulted in the magnficent sum of £10 7s being raised, and in appreciation of the help give by the Otaki Band this sum was handed to the band secretary. The shop day to provide funds for the team's uniforms v/as an outstanding success, the 1 sum of just on £70 being realmea. The sincere thanks of the team ; and its committee are due to all who supported the effort. • | It is understood the team's next j appearance will be in about a fort- ! night's time, by when uniforms i should be to hand. Members of the team are Doreen Bills (leader) , I Noeline Bertlesen, Myreen Cobb, ' Sunny Cootes, ' "Pat" Crowley, Phyllis Merwood, Barbara Monk Edna Taylor, Joyce Taylor, Nancy Verrant, Barbara Wilkinson and Mascot Eileen Hazelwood.
