RECORD ENTRY OF CALVES

SHANNON JUDGING HELD With some 60 entries coming forward, a record for the school and district, the ju'dging of the calf eompetitions was held on Thursday afternoon at the local school. It was pleasing to the committee to see that the public are taking such a keen interest in the eompetitions, and the attendance of the public also created a record. Mr. A. Jeffrey, chairman of the Shannon School Committee, extended a welcome to the visitors and congratulated the children on the excellent entries. The judge, Mr. A. Horn, of Levin, also extended congratulations on the condition of the entries and outlined his reasons for making the various placings. The results were as follows: — Two-year-olds: Dorothy Kennard 1, Brent Bowler 2. Yearlings: Rex Easton 1. Junior, care and attentidh (School Committee Cup) : Allan Bradey 1, Alan Miers 2, Barbara Mason 3. Senior, care and attention (Farmers' Union Cup) : Ray Bowker 1, Barbara Taylor 2, Janice Bradey 3. Dairy type: Ray Bowker 1, Beryl Charter 2, Barbara Taylor 3. Best all-round calf (Dairy Company Cup) : Ray Bowker 1. Those finalists whose calves will compete in the Horowhenua Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club competition at Levin are Allan Bradey, Ray Bowker, Barbara Taylor and Janice Bradey. Mr. R. L. Mr. Jeffrey extended thanks to Mr. Horn for judging the entries and also to Mr. Robinson for being . present.
