WELLINGTON, Nov. 29. All schools, primary and secondary, in the North Island, are to be closed as from Monday, as a preeautionary measure against any spread of the cases of poliomyclitis in Auckland and Taranaki. The medical officer of health in Wellington (Dr. • H. Smith) received advice of this measure today from the DireetorGeneral of Health (Dr. T. R. Ritchie). The University Entrance and scholarships examinations will be held as usual. Dr. Smith emphasised the faet that the closing of the schools was purely a measure of caution.' No cases have yet been reported in the Wellington district. Little was known of the nature of poliomyelitis, especially its peculiar "cycle of recurrcnce, Dr. Smith added. It seemed appareut, however, that they recurred broadly every ten years or so, and an outbreak of the discase had ])een expccted over the last two or three years.
