CRITICAL DAYS IN FRANCE
Received Wednesday, 10.35 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 18. The strikes are spreading in France while the political leaders hold consultations for the formation of a new Government. Steel-hefmeted French soldiers, armed with light and heavy machfne-guns, were posted around G9vernment buildings in Marseilles, where 80,000, ' including errand boys and porters at Central Market, are now idle. Naval and .shore troops have been called to Marseilles to take food cargoes from the docks to Central Market, says Reuter's correspondent. The strikes have spread northward. In the northern mines 130,000 workers downed tools today, while 10,000 millers in the Paris area struck, endangering the Paris bread supply. The French Government has withdrawn some occupation troops from Germany and troops of an armoured division from the Saar took up positions in the Pas-de-Calais area this morning. The Evening Standard correspondent says that the troops inside France are moving to the areas where Communist influence is strong.
