Hearing Aids for Deaf
A'n amplification of the hearing aids benefit seheme as outlined by the Minister of Health recently, was received in a circular from the Department of Health by the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday. The- letter states that Palmerston North will be one of six 'distributing centres for the pominion. Permission has been issued for boards to make available an alternative benefit of £15 to those eligible for assistance who do 1 not wish to take advantage of the free hearing aid, towards the cost" of an approved aid. To be eligible. for assistance the patient must have lost at least 35 decibels in the better ear, and be such that in the specialist's opinion it is capable of correction or marked improvement by the use of the ai'd supplied or approved. A further eondition demands that the patient should not have obtained a hearing benefit within a period of five " years.
