TRIALS AT AWAPUNI

SOME OUTSTANDING GALLOPS Close on fox*ty Awapuni horses will race at Feilding on Saturday and a number of owners, including E. F. Ward, from Levin, G. Clarke, from Feilding, Maurice Millar and J. McMillan, of Palmerston North, were down to see tlie semi-final trials for wliicli the conditions were ideal. Most of the gallops took place on the triai grass and the going was fast. Aniong tlie outstanding trials were tlios'e of Broielield and Langue d'Or ovei* a niile, Emerge and Gay Stroller over .seven, Lady Oratory over six, and of Voltaic and Pitoitoi over half a niile. Anotlier interesting gallop was that of Thimble over about a ini'le and three furlougs. ±;roiefield and Langue d'Or Broielield (V. J. Sellars) and Langue d'Or (G. B. Tattersall) liad liaiding (J. Gartli) with tkem for the lirst three, and the pace was sound from the start. The Manchester Handicap liorses were tiined to run the lirst iive in 1.4 1-5, vvhich was really good, aiul they were liome from the three easily in 40 to complete the mile in 1.44 1-5. They were together and going smoothly at the post. Emerge and Gay Stroller Emerge (Garth) and Gay Stroller (W. J. Broughton) broke 40, eoming in to complete anotlier line trial. They rau the lirst half -niile in 51 2-5, and with Emerge on the outer they covered the fuli distance together in 1.31. S. Waddell iides Gay Stroller in the Manchester. Thimble Worked Kindly Thimble (Broughton) moved away quietlv from tlie four ainl covered the lirst half -mile in 58. This pace was maintained for over a mile and although Thimble cut the last three oui in better tlian 43, he was never required to go fast. Good Gallop by Lady Oratory Lady Orators (1. Colv worked really well over six with the pace on all tlie time. She covered the lirst three in 39 2-5 aiul slie broke 33, coiuing in to complete in 1.17 4-5. Voltaic and Pitoitoi Yoltaic (D. Amey) aucl Pitoitoi (A. Bowness) were conipantons over four, and at tlie liuish Voltaic was gallopiug . easily alongsidc the t wo-year-old after they had run the haif-mile in 51 2-5, the last three in 3*5. Two-year-oids Go Fast Probably the best three of the morning was that of the tsvo-year-olds, Sonia (Sellars) and Perdita (Tattersall). They covered the distance in 37. One of the lirst to work was Blank Clieque (J. llarris). He covered a mile easily in 1.55 with the pace 011 for the iast three in 41. Horouta (Tattersall) was not required to do mucli better tinui 15 to the furlong over seven, a distance "which Reveller cut out in 1.34 2-5, the last three in 39. It was quite an attractive etfort. Waddell) and Newel Post (E. Cleaver) spriuted iive in 1.4 4-5. Fairhome and Tribute Oue of tlie best gallops over seven was that of Fairhome (Amey) and Tribute (llarris), and at tlie post Fairhome appeared to be going tlie better of the two after covering the full distance in 1.32 3-5, the last three in 40 1-5. Tremello and Tavern Light School Well One of the most interesting trials oi the morning was that of Tremello (D. Gollins) and Tavern Light (A. G. Waddell) over six flights of liurdles. Tro mello was 011 the inner and this gave him a big advantage on the corners. They took the lirst two fences together but Tremello was in front going iuto tlie nest aud after that he drew away to be half a dozen lengths to the good 'at the linish. Both jumped well.
