Personal The death occurre'd at Wellington on Sunday of Mr. Henry S. B. Retter. The deceased, who was 70 years of age, was a brother of Mr. J. L. Retter, of Otaki. The news of the death of Mr. Leonard Monkman on Saturday came as a shock to his many friends. While holding the pin for j his companions at the 18th green | on the Hutt Golf Club's course on Saturday afternoon he collapsed and died. Mr. Monkman was manager for the .Yorkshire Insurance Company in Wellington, and resided in Kmg's Crescent, Lower Hutt. He represented the underwriters on the Otaki and Levin Fire Boards. Evening Sports A reminder is given that the second of a series of evening sports meetings will be held on the domain tonight (Wednesday) , when a good programme of events will be submitted. A collection will be taken up to defray expenses. Borough Election A correspondent writes asking if it is the intention of can'didates in the borough election to address ratepayers and state their views, especially, as some are new to municipal honours. The present counciliors might, the wiiter says, set an exampie. He adds that if they do not wish to face the pu'olic, they could set out their views in the Press.
