DR. MANIU PROTESTS HIS INNOCENCE
— Received Tuesdav, 7 p.m. BUCHAREHT, Xov. 11. "All tlie aecusations against me are lies from beginning to end," said the 74-year-old • lormer leader of tlnPeasant Party, Dr. tfianiu, in the closing stages of the trial in which he .ino 18 other members of the party are •harged with treason. Dr. Maniu and the other defendants, in their linal statements, were not allowed to read from their briefs or review the evidence previously intro duced. The president of the court I'requently interrupted tliem with the )bservation, "You said that before". Dr. Maniu denied that he vvorked with American agents. "In fact, the Americans were angry when I refused to create a quasimilitary organisation," he said. He admitted, however, that he had handed to the British and American missions documents and nemoranda dealing with the Rumanian Government. "I did so because I cou sidered the Government was breaking the terms of the Moscow agreement," he added. Dr. Maniu also denied that ' the planned to overthrow the Government. " It is easy to aeeuse but I want oroof, " he said.
