FIRST SPORTS OF ' SEASON ■ The Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Ciub held its first sports meeting of the season on Weanesday night. The attendance was quite satisfactory, while the officials from the president downwards carried out tneir duties in an able manner. There were several races for children, and these were well contested, a large number takmg part in each event. The other ■events, although .entries were not numerous, were interesting, and as the season progresses there should be increased mterest. The track ,was, in good order, thanks to an energetic committee. Results: — v Half-mile cycle— D. Smith (10 yds.) 1, R. Best (50 yds.) 2, W. Wilton (15 yds.) 3. Time, 1 mm. ! 20 secs. E. Matnie (scr.) and N. iFlyger (60 yds.) also- competed. Mathie fell at the starting post and took no part in- the race The limit men made the pace, but I Smith, a young rider who should ! make a name for himself, won easi ily, leaving the second and third i riders to finish together. 1 Open 75 yards handicap. — Juju j Hohipuha 1,' W. Cook 2, I. Mudge '3. Time, 8 secs. There were severn ' starters and the f ace was well i won, inches separating the rjiininers.
