VACANT HOUSE OWNED BY STATE
AUCKLAND, Xov. 2. The anumaly of an Auckland -hou.se owned by the Departnient of Justice being vacant while many persons are in need of aceomniodation has been drawn to the attention of the Alayor, Mr. J. A. C. Alliim, Ho has advised thc Attorney-tieueral, Mr. Mason, and has asked if the liouse could be inaue available to a needy family. Mr. Allum said yesterday that he had received coiuplaints that the house, wjiich is at 34 Spring Htreet, Ponsonby, had been allowed to remain cmpty and he had asked for a report from the city valuer, .A 1 r. W. G. Boswell. This report eonflrmed that the house was owned by the Departnient of Justice and that it had app;irently been vacant for a consi.derable time. Jt conlained aliout four rooms and, although it was in a poor state of repair, it was habitable.
