GOLF SEASON CLOSES
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES Saturday saw the closing day of the 1947 season at the Otaki Golf links, a large number of members being present in ideal golfing weather, and with the course in excellent order. L A mixed foursome over nine holes was played, followed by afternoon tea and the presentation of prizes. The prize list was as follows: — Ladies. — Senior championship : {Mrs. H. Bradford; runner-up: Miss ! E. Higginson. Junior champion- ! ship ; Miss H. Lea ; runner-up : Miss i B. Swabey. Ngatotara Cup: Mrs. D. , G. Sutherland; runner-up: Miss B. Swabey. "C" Grade Cup: Mrs'. B. 'Ryder. Bertram trophy: Mrs. E. P. ; Simcox and Mrs. J. Winterburn i ("A" section) and Miss B. Swabey { ("B" section) . i Men. — Senior championship: Z. Gray; runner-up: J. Winterburn. Intermediate championship: P. O'Rourke; runner-up: S. Elliott. Junior championship: B. H. iRhodes; runner-up: M. Wilson. , Captain's trophy: J. Winterburn. Dovey D'Ath Memorial Cup: J. Winterburn. Tris Harper Memorial jCup: T. O'Rourke. Senior handijcap: J. B. D'Ath. Intermediate jhandicap: R. Blackburn. Junior handicap: G Scarf. Bertram trophy: E. Gray and J. Cooksley. The afternoon's competition was ! won by Mrs. E. Anderson and Z. j Gray with the score of 38 — 8 — 30. j After the presentation of prizes | the usual long driving and approach and putt competitions were held, the former being won by A. D. T. Webster and the latter by J. B. D'Ath. The ladies held an approach and putt competition for prizes prei sented by Mr. E. Jensen. and this I was won by Mrs. E. Anderson with Mrs. D. G. Sutherland second, It is the intention of the club to bring back into play the five holes "dropped" during the war years, and it is anticipated that the start of next season will see the club once again on the fourteen hole course Two members of the club are attending the New Zealand championships commencing at Ngamotu Golf Course, New Plymouth, tomorrow. Zane Gray,- the present senior champion of the club, and J. Winterburn, runner-up to the senior champion a.nd himself champion on a number of occasions. Otaki golfers will be keenly awaiting results.
