MISHAP WHILE TUG BEING HAULED UP
1 WELTTNGTON, Nov. 3. • When. a supporting cradle collapsea beneath the Union Company's new tug Tapuhi as she was being hauled up the pateut slipvray at 3.30 p.m., the tug heeled over on the cradle to an angle of almost 30 degrees. She was being hauled up the slip for overliaul' before being placed in serviee and was almost out of the water when the mishap oceurred. The slipmaster said tonight that no damage had been done to the tug but the repair of the cradle would be a difficult problem as there was little room to work under the tug whicb was secured from falling further by liues from the slip jetty. Worlcers on the slip said the cradle refused to budge as the wheels on which it runs had brokeu or slipped from the tracks. The tug eould be moved neither up'nor down and the water under her was far too shallow to allow her to be pulled oit the cradle where she is now lying. The Tapuhi which was formerly the Kmpire Shirley is one of the two tugs recently bought by the Uuion Company from the British Admiral ty. The two. vessels arrived recently from Singapore and have beeh uudergoin'g an overhaul.
