CRICKET SEASON OPENS
GAMES COMMENCE IN HALL SHIELD COMPETITION The 1947 cricket , season opened on Saturday in fine weather with the first series of games in the Hall Shield competition. Old Boys, Paraparaumu, College A and Levin. Old Boys v. Weraroa Weraroa, last year's champions, 1'ost ifo Old Boys hy 129 runs on the first innings. Old Boys batted first, gathering 182 runs for the Loss of only six wickets. G. Scia- ' scia scored a useful 62. I. Juno (33), N. Sciascia (23) and C. Clapcott (27) all batted soimdly. Weraroa replied with only 53 runs, Barnard with 28 being top scorer. Bowling honours for (Weraroa go to A. Saunders with four for 50, and for Old Boys to I. Juno with five for 12 and V.
