At Addington on Saturday before a tremendous crowd, the great pacer, Highlang Fling, driven by Colin, Berkett, won the richly- endowed New Zealand Trotting Cup by two lengtlis after leading for a mile and a-half. He and his driver were accorded an ovation as they returned to the birdcage. " " ■ During the day the totalisator handled £197,003, compared with £193,544 on Cup Day last year. The field, except for Nyallo Scott and Loyal Peter, which took time to settle down, went away well with Navigate and Battle Colours the early leaders. At the end of four furlongs, Highland Fling had charge from Loyal Peter, Nyallo Scott, Navigate, Plunder Bar, In the Mood, Knave of Diamonds, Great Belwin, Dundee Sandy and Countless. At the end of a mile, the leading positions were unchanged,- and Highland Fling, Loyal Peter and Nyallo Scott were still there when the last round was commenced. When the field started to close up three furlongs from home, a close finisli was indicated, but it did not work out thdt way, Highland Fling going on untroubled to score by two lengths from Knave of Daimonds over a length in front of Loyal Peter followed closely by In the Mood.
