GRAND PARADE AT SHOW
BALLOT TO DECIDE PLACES OF . BREEDS Next year Jersey cattle will not lead the parade of stock at the annual Horowhenua A. and P. • show. This was decided at a ■ meeting of the association's gen- . eral committee on Friday night • after Mr. F. O. Malcolm raised the ' qUestion of deciding which "breed • should lead the parade. It was ■ contended by him that the Jersey ^ breed had led the parade at the ! animal shows for too long, and that > it was time other breeds were given ■ pride of place. After some discussion, it was ■ decided to have a ballot for place : in the parade the first year and to ■ alternate the breeds the following , years. Consequently a ballot was : field, the results of which were as ■ follows: — Ayrshire, Jersey, Short- ■ horn and Freesian. This will be the • order for the coming show, which ; is to be held in January. ? A letter was received from the , Governor-General's official secrei tary, regretting His Excellency's inability to attend and open the 1948 show. M®ssrs. S. W. Barber and J. Blenkhorn were appointed as the association's delegates to the New Zealand Light Horse Society.
