"In our generation the gentle current of the urbanisation in New Zealand has turned into a flowing tide," said the Rev, F. R. B.elmer wlien a report of tlie new housing commission was pi-esented to the Presbyterian Assembly tonight. Cities had mushroomed at a faster rate than houses could be built. ''The crisis will not qnickly pass. In a few years these communities will have established their new way of life and if the church is not an integral part of that life there will be no room for it, The church must rise up and grapple with the problem in a statesmanlilce way." . An indication of what the church was doing in seeuring building sites and erecting temporary and perman ent buildings in snch areas, was given by Dr. J. D. Salmon, convener of the commission, and Rev. A. D. Horwell, secretary. In several places the church had cooperated with other churches in establishing new parishes.
